Who can’t receive my Zakat?
Zakat cannot be given to
The Rich
Non-Muslim – they should be helped through general donations (Sadaqah)
Certain descendants of Banu Hashim (descendants of Abbas, Harith, Abu Talib from Ali, Jafar & Aqil Descendants of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Lineal ascendants i.e. parents and grandparents
Lineal descendants i.e. children and grandchildren
Those who are poor but are strong and able to work. The Hanbali and Shafi Schools are of this opinion. The Hanafi School permits the giving of Zakat to those who are capable of working. The Maliki School also permits it
Spouses cannot give Zakat to each other
Zakat cannot be used for da’wah, building mosques and hospitals etc
